The Oil in Our Souls
When was the last time we truly felt satisfied with something we achieved or something that happened to us?
These wins or blessings give us energy and can even spark brightness in our lives, especially when life feels mundane. Small positive outcomes energize us and motivate us to move forward. On the other hand, too many negative experiences in a row can drag us down, making life—and our own personalities—feel bitter.
It becomes dangerous when we no longer feel any sense of satisfaction in life or become numb to it. It’s a vital part of life to pause and savor the things that bring true satisfaction—experiences that stay with us, lingering in our hearts and often wrapped in a sense of gratitude.
True satisfaction isn’t fleeting; it lasts beyond the moment and stays with us even when we reflect on it later.
Do we take time in our busy lives to recognize and cherish those small victories and blessings? Or have we become too distracted—or worse, indifferent and insensitive—to them?
The Bible says, “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?”
Are we losing the satisfaction in our souls—what makes our lives and the lives of those around us sweeter—in exchange for chasing temporary goals?
Goals bring purpose to our lives, and every person should pursue one to make life meaningful. But we must ask ourselves:
Is our purpose enhancing or draining the oil in our souls—the joy, peace, love, and energy that bring deep, lasting satisfaction?
Sing Hosanna! Give me oil in my lamp, keep me burning
Sing Hosanna! Give me joy in heart, keep me praising
Sing Hosanna! Give me peace in my heart, keep me resting
Sing Hosanna! Give me love in my heart, keep me serving
